FAQs for students
Can you edit my essay, dissertation or thesis?
Yes - I can provide proofreading or light copy editing for essays, dissertations or theses, depending on your needs. However, it is your responsibility to check with your institution’s guidelines on whether editing support is permitted, and to what extent. My role is to help polish your own original work.
Will this comply with my college or university’s academic rules?
It is always the student’s responsibility to ensure that proofreading and light editing comply with their institution’s academic integrity policies. I do not write or rewrite content for you, and I do not conduct research on your behalf. My services support you in presenting your own work clearly and accurately.
What file formats do you accept?
I work with Word documents and Google Docs, as these formats allow for ‘Tracked Changes’ and comments. If you’re unsure about your file format, just get in touch - I’ll be happy to help.
When do i pay for your services?
Full payment is required in advance of securing your booking. Once we’ve agreed on the scope of work and your deadline, I will provide an invoice. Work will begin as soon as payment is received.
What is the difference between proofreading and light copy editing?
Proofreading is the final check before submission, focusing on correcting typos, spelling errors, punctuation slips and obvious grammar mistakes
Light copy editing goes a step further: I will gently refine sentence structure, improve readability, and ensure consistency of tone and flow, while respecting academic guidelines. Proofreading is included in this service, so you’ll never pay twice.
How quickly can you return my work?
Turnaround times depend on the length and complexity of your document, but I always aim to work within your deadlines. Please contact me as early as possible to secure your preferred timeframe.
How do you track changes in my document?
I use the ‘Track Changes’ feature in Word or ‘Suggesting’ mode in Google Docs. This means you’ll see every correction and suggestion I make, and you’ll stay in full control of your final document. You’ll be able to review, accept, or reject each edit with ease, ensuring the work remains your own.
