LFP Editorial Studio — Terms of Service

Thank you for considering LFP Editorial Studio. These Terms of Service outline how I work, what you can expect when commissioning editorial support, and the standards I hold myself to. Whether you’re developing a novel, refining a memoir, or working on a piece of narrative nonfiction, please read these terms carefully before booking.

1. Scope of Services

LFP Editorial Studio provides:

  • Manuscript Critique and Developmental Insight — detailed, high-level feedback on full manuscripts, focusing on structure, pacing, character development, voice, and overall impact. Where helpful, this may include a bespoke Editorial Letter responding to questions you've raised about your work, and tailored revision aids such as mini style sheets, thematic maps, or character and timeline notes shaped to your manuscript's specific needs.

  • Copy Editing and Proofreading — line-level refinement for fiction and narrative nonfiction, improving clarity, flow, and consistency while preserving your voice.

  • Submission Package Review — focused editorial feedback for writers preparing to query literary agents, covering opening chapters (up to 10,000 words) and query letter, with practical guidance for refinement before submission.

  • A free 1,000-word sample edit, offered without obligation to help us establish a good editorial fit before booking. Sample edits are subject to availability and do not constitute a contract for further services.

  • A collaborative, thoughtful editorial process tailored to your goals and the needs of your work.

Nature of feedback

Manuscript critiques and editorial assessments provide structured, high-level feedback on the work as a whole. They do not include line-by-line editing, in-text annotations, or comprehensive page-by-page commentary unless explicitly agreed in advance.

Working notes, annotations, and preparatory materials created during the editorial process remain the property of LFP Editorial Studio and are not included in deliverables.

Editorial feedback is based on professional judgement and experience. While every effort is made to provide clear, constructive, and actionable guidance, outcomes will vary depending on how the feedback is interpreted and applied.

2. Quotes and Payment

  • Quotes are based on word count, project complexity, and required turnaround time, and are valid for 30 days from the date of issue.

  • All fees are quoted in pounds sterling (GBP).

  • International clients are responsible for any currency conversion fees, international transfer charges, or local taxes that may apply at their end.

  • If the manuscript's actual word count differs materially from the count provided at booking (typically by more than 5%), I reserve the right to revise the quote before continuing.

  • Bespoke quotes for manuscripts over 100,000 words, or for projects requiring deeper structural support, are issued individually, with full terms confirmed in writing prior to booking.

  • A 60% deposit is required to confirm your booking and secure your place in the schedule.

  • The remaining 40% is due within 7 days of final delivery unless agreed otherwise in writing.

  • Invoices are issued via email and are payable via PayPal or bank transfer.

  • Full payment is required regardless of the extent to which the client chooses to implement the feedback.

  • Final delivery of the agreed report, deliverables, or edited manuscript (depending on the chosen service) constitutes completion of the service.

  • If payment is not received within 7 days of delivery, I reserve the right to pause all communication and withhold further support until the balance is settled.

  • For smaller or urgent projects, different terms may occasionally apply. This will always be confirmed before work begins.

3. Turnaround Times

  • Delivery timelines will be confirmed at the time of booking

  • I aim to deliver all work on or before the agreed date. If any unexpected delay occurs, I’ll notify you as soon as possible

  • Expedited projects may be subject to a rush fee, depending on availability

  • Please note: I may have a waitlist

4. Client Responsibilities

Clients are expected to:

  • Submit finalised content before work begins (unless we’ve agreed a phased project)

  • Provide all materials in an editable format (e.g. Word, Google Docs)

  • Respond to questions or clarification requests in a timely manner to avoid delays

5. Revisions

  • "Revisions" refer to minor clarifications or adjustments, not a reworking of the original report or deliverables.

  • One round of post-delivery revision is included within 7 days of final payment for editing projects, provided it is requested within that window.

  • Substantive rewrites or additional feedback rounds beyond the agreed scope may incur additional charges. This will always be discussed in advance.

  • For Manuscript Critiques and Editorial Assessments, one round of follow-up questions is included by email within 7 days of final payment. This applies to any of the deliverables provided, including the editorial report, Editorial Letter, and any supplementary revision aids.

  • Follow-up questions are intended to clarify points within the deliverables rather than extend or expand the original scope of work. Additional feedback or further review can be arranged separately.

6. Use of AI Tools and Editorial Technology

All editing services provided by LFP Editorial Studio are carried out manually by a human editor unless explicitly agreed otherwise in writing.

AI tools are not used to rewrite or rephrase your work. They would only ever be used at your request. If AI-assisted input is requested (for example, to reduce turnaround time or adjust project scope), this will be:

• clearly discussed in advance

• reflected in the project quote

• marked where appropriate in the deliverables

Your work is treated as confidential at all times and is not used to train AI systems. Transparency matters to me. A thoughtful, human editorial eye remains central to all services I provide.

On your use of AI

Writers are welcome to use tools to support their creative process. I work with manuscripts as they arrive, not with judgements about how they came to be. My role is to help your work become the best version of itself, and that role is the same whether your manuscript was drafted longhand, at a keyboard, or with the support of AI tools. You are under no obligation to disclose AI involvement, though you're welcome to share context about your process if you feel it would help me support the work more effectively.

7. Confidentiality

All client materials are treated with strict confidentiality and never shared outside the scope of the agreed service. If you would like me to sign an NDA, just let me know.

8. Cancellation and Refunds

  • I understand that things can change. You are welcome to cancel a project before work begins at no charge.

  • If work has already started, you will be invoiced for the portion completed up to that point.

  • Deposits are non-refundable once work has commenced unless otherwise agreed.

  • In the unlikely event that I am unable to complete the agreed work due to illness, family emergency, or other unforeseen circumstances, I will notify you as soon as possible. We will agree together either to extend the timeline or, where this is not workable, to refund any portion of the deposit corresponding to work not yet completed.

  • Postponements requested by the client more than 14 days before the agreed start date can usually be accommodated, subject to availability. Postponements requested closer to the start date may forfeit the deposit, depending on circumstances.

9. Copyright And Portfolio Use

Copyright in the manuscript remains entirely with the original author at all times.

Copyright in the editorial materials I produce — including written reports, Editorial Letters, mini style sheets, thematic maps, and any other supplementary deliverables — remains with LFP Editorial Studio. Clients receive a perpetual, non-exclusive licence to use these materials for their own revision, publication, and personal reference. They may not be republished, resold, or shared as standalone resources without my written permission.

With your written permission, I may share short anonymised excerpts in my portfolio or marketing. Client names, manuscript titles, and any identifying details will never be shared without your explicit consent. Where testimonials are used, they will be attributed only as you have agreed (for example, initials and genre, or first name only).

10. Document Retention Policy

I retain manuscript files for 30 days after final delivery, to allow time for follow-up or revision requests. After this period, manuscript files are securely deleted from my systems.

Email correspondence and invoicing records are retained for the period required by HMRC and applicable UK law (currently a minimum of six years), in line with my obligations as a UK sole trader. These records are kept securely and used only for accounting, tax, and legal compliance purposes.

If you prefer your manuscript to be deleted immediately upon delivery, please let me know in advance. I do not retain copies of manuscript files beyond the periods stated above, and I recommend that you keep your own backup copy for your records.

11. Right to Decline

I may decline projects that fall outside my areas of expertise, are not aligned with my editorial focus, or raise ethical concerns (such as academic dishonesty or harmful content).

12. Contact

I aim to respond to all emails within 1–2 business days. All communication will be conducted via email unless otherwise agreed.

13. Privacy & Data Protection

I collect only the personal information necessary to provide my services: your name, email address, and project materials. Payment details are processed securely via PayPal or bank transfer and are not stored by LFP Editorial Studio.

Your information is used solely to deliver the agreed service and communicate about your project. I do not share your details with third parties except where necessary to process payments.

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact me at hello@lfpstudio.co.uk.

This website may use cookies to improve your browsing experience. By using this site, you consent to the use of cookies in accordance with this policy.

14. Limitation of Liability

Editorial services are provided in good faith and based on professional judgement and experience. While I take great care with every project, the success of any manuscript ultimately depends on factors beyond editorial input — including how feedback is interpreted, developed, and applied, as well as the wider publishing or submission environment.

Editorial work supports your manuscript; it doesn't determine its fate. I can't guarantee specific outcomes — whether that's interest from agents, commercial success, or perfect freedom from typos (no edit ever can). What I can offer is careful, considered work and honest feedback.

In practical terms, any liability arising from services provided by LFP Editorial Studio will be limited to the total fees paid for the relevant project, except where UK law does not allow such limitation.
